COAA MEMBERS’ GALLERY FEATURING:

Brenda Hunniford

I am retired from my 25-year career as a teacher and have lived in Cambridge with my family since 1987.  While I have always enjoyed creative pursuits, I took my first art course in acrylics in 2009 and have not stopped painting since. I started painting landscapes using acrylics and have expanded to creating abstract works and other subjects that interest me.

Right from my first encounter with painting, I immediately embraced the vivid colours, flexibility and fluidity of creating artwork with acrylics. Over time, I have also enjoyed experimenting with different media in conjunction with paint. I have continued to expand my knowledge about art and painting through a variety of courses and open studio classes at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts as well as learning from Laurie Wonfor Nolan through her Studio Classes and classes at DVSA.

I am driven by the life events and experiences that have challenged me.  For me, whether those challenges are positive or negative, the way I respond to my life experiences is like walking a narrow pathway or “wire.”  As an artist, I balance myself amongst different aspects of self-expression and creativity. I use my art to attempt to weave various threads of experience and illustrate different aspects of who I am. For my works, at times I have chosen to use varied colour palettes, a variety of textural media, and abstraction to broaden my exploration and my journey as an artist through the pathway of my life.
