ARTIST STATEMENT

Line, negative space, form and colour … my guides to representing chosen topics. Details capture my eye and I love the challenge of exploring elusive details beyond the obvious. As I progress with my work, I enjoy surprising myself and viewers with the unexpected – be it colour or line.

I work primarily with pastels though also enjoy mixed media i.e. watercolors, colored pencil and pen and ink. A favourite technique is eraser work, then building with shadows and highlights. Feathers and fur are wonderful venues for this work. And of course, detailing eyes to bring life to my critters always brings excitement to my work. Wildlife, birds and young animals tend to be my main subjects of interest, but I take pleasure in working from a wide range of topics.

Eliciting a reaction of interest, joy or just curiosity brings great satisfaction. To be honest I simply enjoy my art!
