Shirley Posthumus Hokke
Shirley Posthumus Hokke is a formally trained Artist/Educator who attended Western and Nipissing Universities. She is best known for her innovative approaches in experimenting with materials to attain a common theme. She has generously shared her original techniques at local Art Galleries and to Secondary School Visual Arts students for many years.
Hokke’s main body of work includes sizable oil on canvas Rock Formation paintings as exhibited in the 90’s at the Woodstock Art Gallery and London’s Spencer Gallery; Another collection of paintings were created with the Northern Lights theme and was exhibited in the Netherlands. Recently, she has been finding wood patterns on birch wood veneer to create a unique design using a glazing technique as exhibited at the Tillsonburg Library, Station Arts Centre, Glenhyrst, and Woodstock Art Galleries. Hokke’s acceptance in juried selected art exhibitions at Etobicoke Civic Centre, Art Gallery of Hamilton, Button Gallery, Kitchener, North Bay Art Gallery, London Regional Art Gallery and Woodstock Art Gallery are recognized.
Hokke has taken part in several group exhibitions, and is an active member of Oxford Creative Connections, Central Ontario Art Association, co-founding member of Bridge Street Artists and she recently attended the Canadian Painters Symposium, Orillia. In addition, Shirley contributed to High School Theatre productions, and has had solo exhibitions in Tillsonburg, Ingersoll, London, Mississauga, North Bay and Otterville. Hokke is a recipient of an Ontario Arts Council grant and received a Community Accomplishment Award from Nipissing University.
